After seeing Maria Sharapova sent packing with her short yesterday; the beautiful world no 1, Ana Ivanovic bit her farewell to the grass court blaming the stress she had after being on the top?
Kind of lame excuse.
After gracefully winning the French Open last month and capturing the one spot of the WTA ranking, she should have learn being on the top is not easy. Its a huge commitment. Like Billie Jean King said; pressure is a privileges.
She supposedly suck up to the pressure but on the court she was doing otherwise. I think this is why she losing the easy game with another low ranking player as similar with Maria Sharapova.
However, Jia Zheng did play good and smart by taking those opportunity for her to goes further inside the draw.
For Ana to be in the group of high profile player which keep winning the Slam again and again is to handle the stress of winning while on court.
Who said winning is easy? Losing is much easy actually.
Some commentator said it was the height of Jia Zheng that make the ball reach Ana so low till she had problem handling it; kind of right actually. Maybe she just kind of give up after the first set I guess because of that. You could feel she just like saying out loud when the ball hit the net; I’m surrender.
On the press conference after the game proves she had learn her lesson.
“I’m still so young and have many tournaments in front of me. These things make you realise there are areas to improve on. Sometime you need a punch like this.”
I hope she get to handle the same stress again, if only she ever stay on the No 1 rank spot longer..
