a guilty pleasure, a pop corn and a tissue box
The other day at my birthday dinner, a few of us was talking about movies. Suddenly I get tagged by my lovely ArnabGumuk - so like speak of the devil – these are my guilty pleasure, my pop corn and my tissue box movie list.
1st, Esok Untuk Siapa
Tuhan, ambillah nyawa anak aku ini, if a mum would say that…

Who said I didn’t love Malay movie? I do!
This is one of my favourite Malay movie!
One part of the movie chilled my neck every time I saw it – that ‘Talqim‘ reading by Nuri Angkasa still playing in my mind everytime I thinking about it – ‘Ya Intan binti ….’
Why this one so special to me, the wedding scene was filmed near my house back in Kelantan.
And who can’t forget the scene which Norizan goes underneath the house and pray to God before she strangle Jiman to death!
2nd, Bukit Kepong (according to someone as Peristiwa Bukit Kepong)
I hate Komunis who killed a policeman!

Can you hear the trompet sound now?
When I was kid, my family went to this kind of movie show (night time) at the school field. A van will come and projected it to the big screen.
We bring foods and tikar and sit on the field and watch it.
FYI: I comes from kampung, is not I’m old timer, bro – isssshhh – I’m still 32!
This is one of the movie (I think, I can’t recall myself tho). But after we got TV at home, I watch it again…
Remember Suhaina Yahya, the wife who jump underneath the bunker and shooting to save his husband! Make my heart warm to see her courage.
Even the movie inspired my first ‘cita-cita‘ – to be a policeman – somehow its never happens but at least I had cita-cita when I was a kid!
3rd, Shakespeare in Love
When literature collide, love is forbidden… ever!

Any movie with a British slang and shows Gywneth Paltrow t*ts – always make me excited!
Joking guys!
When the movie win an Academy Award for Best Picture, I straight away went to VCD stall to get one; I fall in love with the movie script, the costume and as always with Shakespeare own words.
“She’s being plugged, not by you” – An English way to say – she’s being f*cked by someone else!
How nice!
4th, You’ve Got Mail
a romantic comedy obsession with a touch of email

I love how this movie was set in New York and every time I watch it my love towards the city grows on me, I even promise myself, I’ll be in New York; buying flowers at the morning market, having coffee at the sidewalk cafe, sitting on the park with my loves enjoying spring weather.
Somehow with the email and pen-pal influence of how a girl would fall in love with a man, touches my heart and melt me every time and make me think someday (someday!) I would fall in love with the right person in similar way!
Does anyone wouldn’t love a bookstore name Shop Around The Corner?
Madonna in baseball uniform? You got to watch it!

An old movie, I can’t recall when it was showed on cinema but somehow Madonna’s hand was still pretty so it must be quite old!
The story tell about what happens during all the man went to war in Europe and baseball still have to go on, so they replaced with all girl team.
The girly part of me was so pop cornish seeing this movie – it’s so inspirational!
6th, For Love of The Game
Kevin Costner in baseball uniform, it must be one hell of love…

I think I watch this movie more than 20 times on Astro channel for past few years. Till now, this movie has become one of my guilty pleasure.
It’s about a veteran pitcher who trying his best to get a perfect game, while he flashback on his relationship with his new found girlfriend.
He was puzzled to differentiate between his love to the game and to his other half.
That airport kissing moment, always tingle me and I wish every time I see this movie, I want kiss and hug my love one.
Success is meaningless when you can’t shared it with your love one and when you’re alone no matter how success you were, you’re nothing but alone!
7th, Evita
You must love me! You must love me!

In college, I started to go to cinema – as usual it was Madonna that attract me to watch this movie (I’m not a die hard fan of Madonna tho) – and after watching it I fall in love with something else, which is the musical drama genre and Evita Peron herself.
But the one song, You Must Love Me, win my heart by mile.
You must love me! No matter how bad I was…
8th, Von Ryan’s Express
I fall in love with WWII and Frank Sinatra in leather jacket!

Back in 90’s, when I was a teenager – I start to get plug-in to my tv box (my black & white tv) – and I always turn to TV2 channel.
One night I saw this war movie – I was so damn excited! Believe me, really(5x) excited!
As clueless as I was, I never know what’s the title or who the actor but I always remembered the plot! After couple of year, once there was an Internet, I yahooed the movie plot (back then in 90’s there was no Google, ok) and manage to get the movie detail!
Now I’ve the movie on my DVD collection, and every time I watch it, I’m smiling.
This was my come-out movie.
On another note; Frank Sinatra look so damn f*cking smoking hot in that leather jacket.
9th, Titanic
I cried, I cried, I cried, I cried, I cried and still crying…

Some of you who knows me, I’m a romantic freak!
I love to create new trick to win my love one heart. Titanic always the movie that give me many inspiration.
I watch this movie 7 times at the cinema and each and every time, I cry.
I’m no shy guy, ok – cry is good – to let you guilty pleasure go away.
Sometimes the one who lives on are meant to tell the story of the one who left behind… and love between two person will be the greatest love of all times when it’s forbidden and they both were not meant to be together (even that person is sitting right infront of you)!
(can you hear that song now….)
Aaaaaarrrrrrghhhhhhhh - I need tiiiiissuuuue…
