Noordin Mohammed Top – is he a Malaysian still?
This morning I read a piece of news by LA Times online and my thought was this would be nothing but bad for Malaysian.
By noon, the worse happen and it’s now all over the news media.
This one guy, Noordin Mohammed Top, born and educated in Malaysia, turn into a bombmaker that was involved in the many bombings through out Indonesia between 2002 and 2004, which has now become the Most Wanted Man in Asia.
And after the Jakarta’s JW Marriot and Ritz Carlton hotel blast yesterday, he once more becomes the headline in any part of the world.
Check out this headlines;
Report: Malaysian fugitive suspected in hotel bombs – CNN International
Malaysia fugitive terrorist linked to Jakarta’s suicide bombing – XinHua
Malaysian suspected in Indonesia hotel attacks – Los Angeles Times – LA Times
Malaysian extremist behind Indonesia attacks: official – Calgary Herald
Malaysian extremist Noordin Top blamed for Jakarta attacks – France 24
Imagine people in northern part of Germany, eastern part of China or southern part of Chile will sat in front of their TV news channel and see or read the news and what they will focus at, the word of ‘Malaysia’ or ‘Malaysian’.
As Malaysian, this kind of publicity totally isn’t good for us; PERIOD.
Why?
Linking the evil act of him to Malaysian (generally) – as a mastermind – is like poking the needle on all of us Malaysian.
I think the media always like to associate a country to any of the act of terrorism.
The problem is, Nordin Mohammed Top is always suspected living large in Indonesia – at most of the time – and he always targeted his act of terrorism in matter of Indonesian interest.
So why does the media still using the word ‘Malaysian’ or ‘Malaysia’ again and again – he wasn’t doing this act of violence when he was in Malaysia – so he wasn’t a fugitive from Malaysia or Malaysian extremist.
All the headlines sound so biased and making it’s like Malaysian are a sort of an enemy to Indonesian.
Making this matter worse, Malaysia and Indonesia always have this sibling’s rivalry and with the recent event of cold domestic relationship, it would create more tension between the two countries.
I think, the headlines should just said, the Bali’s bomber suspected again in the recent hotel bombs and should snippets in the brief description as Malaysian-borne, perhaps.
However, you can’t just control juicy headlines – it’s sold;
And this makes me wonder, does he still a Malaysian (in spirit of a common people in Malaysia like me and you)?
I think he is no longer a Malaysian and in my opinion he doesn’t practices and believes in our Rukun Negara anymore;
So, what should a country do when one of its people (or once its people) do an act of violence like this?
Should we just ignore it or maybe quoting on a news media like this by local BERNAMA, Malaysia Seriously Views Allegation On Bomber
“If there is any information, please pass (it) to our authorities. We are keen to know and will cooperate fully as we always do with our neighbours when it comes to terrorism,” said Wisma Putra
Is that good enough?
I don’t think so.
That was not enough to counter-attack the damage which has been done from the above headlines.
Is like there are two people inside the elevator and the person who fart say to another person, “It wasn’t me!”

Vira, I do share same opinion with you on his act of terror – I think what his doing is just bad no matter where – to do such thing at this time of economy will make the reputation of any country badly tinted – western country would just find us – ASEAN – such unstable region – to kill an innocent people who doing business in this region would make all the investor running away – on the matter of MU – I wasn’t a fan – so either they played here or there – it just a game; I do heard that Malaysia loosing twice since MU couldn’t play there – what a pity;

It is rather obvious that the media always points to Malaysia.
You cannot hide the fact that these evil perpetrator comes from Malaysia; first it was Dr. Azhari then now Noordin M. Top.
Both hold Malaysian passport and are Malaysian citizens; they use Indonesia as a breeding ground to spread their evil work.
Don’t blame it on the Media, they are just doing their work in collecting the facts.

Hi John, thanks for dropping by – However it’s wrong perception to blame it to ‘Malaysia’ itself about both of them; Noordin M. Top is married to local Indonesian and has being in Indonesia most of his adult life; I’ve no fact either his still holding a Malaysian passport – so I reserved my comment on that.
However, I didn’t blame the media especially through out the world – but the comment from out local authority kind of just a comment – hopefully there is action to apprehended this guy if he’s still in Malaysia;

I wonder why he attacked our country, Indonesia. Indonesia and Malaysia share the same major religion, Islam, but why Noordin M. Top attacked us? He is not a human, he is evil. I don’t blame all Malaysian out there, I just wonder, why he used Indonesia as their bombing stage?
I hope we can keep our strong relationship as a neighbouring country in the future.

Hi Sherlockindo, thanks for dropping by;
I wasn’t sure what is the motive behind the attack on Indonesian soil; I think perhaps in any country – there always be an extremist – and an extremist generally have an agenda on their own – till he’s captured we wouldn’t know why;
Lets pray for that;

You cant blame the media. its just a matter of words and line of biography.
like the movie Fitna. You remember? the director will be remembered always as a Dutch. It doesnt matter if his adult life he lives in moon.
Noordin will always be remembered as a Malaysian. You just gotta deal with it.
*shrug* well, he’s dead now…in a toilet..
peace on earth.

But, yes…… Two of them are Malaysian!! That’s the fact…
August 8th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Hi Mithya – Yeah, some how we got to deal with it – If one of our Malaysian who success in other industry even he/she no longer Malaysia – we do try to proud of it – so I think this goes the same way, no doubt about it – but I’m still dooubt he doing this for sake of he is Malaysian and the country he bomb is Indonesia – I think personally he doing this on his own capacity of extremism;
August 8th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Hi Aristo, thanks for dropping by – Yup he’s Malaysian – but my question was what a country should do to a fugitive in other country who living large outside the country – like similar with Serbian War Crime – what should a country do; disowned them or declared them a fugitive;
August 9th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Noordin m top live in indonesia since 7-8 years ago and now you say “he has being in indonesia most of his adult life”. Now he is 40 yrs old man, are yo sure with your statement before?
August 9th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Nobody knows (the media quote 7-8 years as official figure), he was once in Malaysia and part of his life was in Indonesia – especially when his married to an Indonesian – no need to argue about how long he was there or here; Some Indonesian who migrate here and married to local mostly becomes a Malaysian after a while too;

People around the world off course see the word, ‘Malaysian borne’ but not Mohammed Nordin Top itself. To clear this ugly and dirty image of Malaysia I would like to suggest that the Malaysian government should publicly declares that Mohammed Nordin Top had been scrapped his Malaysia citizenship. Its pointless to keep this evil perpetrator. He totally spoilt the name of this peaceful country-Malaysia. He is not a human being instead he is the worse creatures in the world.

Hello,
Truth hurt, isn’t it?
Well, just admit that Malaysian is mastermind of the terror in South East Asia.
Even the prime minister is convicted of Mongolian model bomb

Hi Maling,
Please don’t posted malicious comment, we’re discussing a different issues here – there’s no need to make a remarks based upon your act of stupidity;
August 12th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Henry,
I wasn’t sure there is law by UN to strip a citizenship – but I think Malaysian Government wasn’t good enough in handling this issue of Public Relation regarding Noordin Mohammad Top
August 14th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Well I must say, Malaysian is terrorist
Just admit that the terrorist mastermind is Malaysian
Thanks,
August 15th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Maling, I did mention Noordin is a Malaysian – so don’t need to emphasis it sarcastically again that Malaysian is a terrorist; however the issue raised by me in this discussion was, what a country should do when one of its individual is doing act of terror towards other country; should this happen to your country – what they should do;

“…but I think Malaysian Government wasn’t good enough in handling this issue of Public Relation regarding Noordin Mohammad Top”
I agree with your comment. CNN & Discovery Channels are bombarded with “Malaysia Truly Asia” ads every commercial break, plus the delicately put “Malaysian-born” terror*st instead of plain “Malaysian citizen”.
The world is not stupid, y’know…..
…. just my two cents
